Oh, wow, this domain is still active. Yay! Well, how do I explain my hiatus this time…school? Yea, this past semester was so much theory, so much information to try and cram into the ole grey matter. All I really wanted to do with my free time was vegetate and catch up on my games.
I’m still behind on my gaming, by the way. I’m still trying to finish up Assassin’s Creed: Revelations before I move on to Assassin’s Creed 3, so please; quit trying to spoil it for me guys!

I’ve gotten some cool stuff done this semester. First and foremost, I passed all my classes. Thank God, so on to the next one. I’ve found out that if I can organize my classes correctly, I can be done with this whole school thing in a year, and try to move on to bigger and better things.

I made another film this semester. I didn’t even have to this time, it was an option. Our Sci-Fi film professor gave us the option that we could either take the final exam, or we could make a short Sci-Fi film. I thought about that choice for about 3 seconds before arriving at the decision of, “Screw the final, it’s movie time.” And thank God, I had an amazing crew to work with! There are other hard working people out there after all, faith in humanity restored! Some of my friends in the class all instantaneously arrived at the same decision, and by the end of that same week we were brainstorming ideas for the plot. I ended up writing, directing, doing most of the camera work, and some of the editing, so my group said that it was cool for me to throw in the prestigious designation, A Film by Corey VanderSleen. They gave me a lot of leeway to shape the film as I saw fit, and they did as much as they possibly could to make my vision a reality. And…we nailed it.

Alright, yea yea, blah blah, I’ll quit stroking my own ego and put it out there. Here you go, A Film by Corey VanderSleenRecalibration.

I really hope y’all enjoyed that, and please feel free to leave me feedback, as I’ve had lots of requests already to make a sequel. I want to know what y’all liked most and what to try and improve upon.

Okay, a little housecleaning now. I’ve changed my Twitter handle. I am know longer @OutlawProductns, and am now @CVSleen. I’ve also, after having it for almost 8 years, changed my Xbox Live Gamertag from Ofnir to CVSleen. I wanted to start having some continuity across several platforms on how I identify myself. I also want to start putting more emphasis on my personal name, versus a company name that has yet to take off.
This leads me to a decision that I’ve been mulling over pretty much all semester…

Up until this point, I’ve continued to push that I still want to pursue a career in music, and that all my film studies have been complimentary, if not tangental, to my music career. Well…I need to be honest with myself. Music is still a big passion of mine, but it is not how I will be making my name. I am a filmmaker, and will be moving forward as a filmmaker. That’s not to say that I won’t be working on music anymore, but it will be secondary to my film projects.
I’m a better filmmaker than I am a musician, and I need to play to my strengths.
Rule #2Don’t waste a good thing.

And it’s not like choosing to be a filmmaker is exactly settling. To this day, one of the coolest and most moving life experiences I’ve had is watching a film that I had a hand in get screened in an actual movie theater in Dallas, and have it followed up with thunderous applause. I’m of course talking about my group’s submission to the 2009 24 Hour Video Race-Dallas, Apple. I know I’ve already dumped its link in the ^video folder^, but I also want to give you the link to a pirate version taken by a group member during its first screening. Maybe this can give you an idea to the type of moment that ranks as my life’s all time best.

This next year is going to be a year of reinvention. I already know what my New Year’s Resolution is going to be; to start building some groundswell behind my own name. Not a brand name, not some trademark or a company name, my own birth name. 2013: The Genesis of CVSleen. Personally, I can’t wait.

Um…should I be embarrassed to say that I’m one of those people that takes a picture of their own food, no. Food Porn is awesome. I draw the line at putting it on Instagram, I don’t need to see my burger in sepia, thanks. So…I wanna start leaving y’all with Food Porn, instead of the Demotivationals from the last run. Get ready to drool compadres.

Keep your heads up, your minds sharp, and your hearts open.
